How to join

If you love singing with others and want to bring music and singing back into your life, come along for a free taster session and join the gang.

Book a taster session
  • When

We meet on Thursday evenings (during term time) from 8.15-9.30pm. Sessions start with a 10 minute warm-up.

    Where

St John the Evangelist Church hall, Brighton Place, Portobello, EH15 1LT.

  • Sessions are run in half-termly blocks of 4-6 weeks. Members sign up for a block, priced at £7.50 per session.

We offer a free taster session for new members, so you can give us a try before committing, and these can be booked for any session in a block. If you decide to become a member, you can pay for the remainder of the current block, charged at the weekly rate.

We hope to be able to offer concession rates soon. If paying by block isn’t possible for you, please email us to discuss alternative options.

We don’t offer refunds, unless in exceptional circumstances.

  • We are a non-audition choir. Our group is made up of a real mixture of people, with a variety of singing experience.

Some members haven’t done any singing since primary school, and others are seasoned choral singers. Some have only ever sung secretly in the shower, while others are trained vocalists. Some are a bit nervous to get back into singing, others are confident soloists.

We welcome everyone, and enjoy the energy that diversity brings to our sessions.

We are an LGBTQIA+ friendly choir, and are welcoming to singers of all gender presentations.

We would love to have you join us, so come and give us a go!

  • Our sessions are taught by ear, so you don’t need to be able to read music.

We provide members with information and materials for each half-term block of sessions in advance, including recordings of voice parts for every piece, plus lyrics.

We encourage you to listen to the recordings and practice at home between rehearsals, which helps us tackle more ambitious arrangements and make the most of our time together each week.

  • We aim to do at least one informal performance each term, so that we have the opportunity to share what we’ve been working on with friends, family and our community.

We’re also planning to perform at local events, such as Porty Festival in May and the Big Beach Busk in August, as well as Christmas community events.

We’ll share news of events and performances once confirmed, but performances are not compulsory for our members, so there’s no pressure if it’s not your thing!
