About us
Sing Porty is a new community choir with big ambitions and a sense of humour.
We’re friendly, welcoming, and open to anyone who loves singing in a group. We’re building a dedicated community of lovely people, connected by a shared love of singing with others.
So far we’ve had an amazing response from the Portobello community, and are quickly growing a family of like-minded folk who have the collective drive to get better and better—all while making new friends and having a laugh.
We are positive, supportive and inclusive. We leave each session feeling uplifted, reinvigorated and connected with ourselves and each other.
Who we are
We are Lucy and Jane, two Porty pals who decided our lives weren’t quite busy enough between work, study and raising young families, so thought we’d start our own choir!
We set up Sing Porty in autumn 2025, with a desire to carve out space for fun, creativity and togetherness.
Lucy brings the musical magic and Jane covers the boring (but equally important) stuff.

What we sing
We sing an eclectic mix of familiar and nostalgic pieces, alongside work that challenges us and introduces us to different traditions and modes of group singing.
We aren’t defined by any one genre or type of choral singing—one week we might sing a traditional folk song from Finland or a chamber piece, and the next we’ll do a pub singalong classic or a 90s banger.
Our sessions are taught by ear, so you don’t need to be able to read music. Our arrangements are sometimes simple, sometimes more challenging – but always beautiful.
We are collaborative and are open to ideas and suggestions from our members, so if there’s a piece you’re dying to sing with a group, let us know!
